Longevity

Longevity is often as another way to express life expectancy. Longevity is important for pension because the longer someone lives in retirement, the longer they will require pension income. In the UK, life expectancy is on the rise. This also means that those organisations and firms that are providing pensions in payment need greater funding to cover these additional years of life expectancy. Given that the UK has increased longevity, the Government is reviewing the age at which someone can start to take their State pension, also known as the State pensionable age.
