    THIS IS MONEY

    Summary and Popularity of Site

This Is Money is designed to share up to date financial news including share prices and the latest company news and market reports. It helps those who are interested in or have already invested in shares and has tools like interest calculators available for visitors. It is ranked outside the top 13,000 sites worldwide but is in the top 500 in the UK*.

    Site Design

Once you scroll down the homepage you see the complete lack of organisation. There are a myriad of options but it is not easy to figure out the location of the item you are searching for. The site does have a lot of activity with dozens of pictures displayed, usually one per story.

This makes the focus unclear, though the links to getting the best loans and discounts on mortgages and insurances tells you that this is a site specifically designed for the consumer. Those who are looking for straight forward financial news will probably look elsewhere as there are numerous general interest stories regarding bankrupt celebrities and aging yuppies who exist only to make money.

    Content

There is a whole section dedicated to pension advice. It includes stories about how other pensioners are struggling to pay their mortgage and how others have been swindled by unscrupulous companies. There are also articles about writing your will, receiving a state pension and an important article that wonders how much you actually need to live on when you retire.

    Positives and Summary

All this is excellent information, but having a homepage that resembles a Jackson Pollack painting in terms of structure is not conducive to repeat visitors. It is useless having such a potentially excellent site if they cannot package the material in an easy to find manner.

The articles are easily read, providing the requisite advice without trying to sound too clever. Overall, this is a very busy site, though not the best place to come if you’re looking for a quick read. However, if it’s pension advice you’re after, then This Is Money is a tremendous resource.
