What will my pension value be at retirement?

The value of your pension at retirement will depend on your contribution amounts, how long you have been contributing, the performance of the funds, and the charges and fees that have been applied.

When you go through a pension review/transfer process an IFA will normally contact your pension provider on your behalf to get a projection as to the value based on different growth rates. They do this to ascertain whether it would be worthwhile re-placing the funds elsewhere.

A recent addition to annual pension statements is a section explaining what your projected income would be at retirement. The calculation that providers use to get to this figure factors in inflation and attempts to give a good guestimate of your pension value in real terms.

Dig out your most recent pension statement, or speak to an IFA to tell them that you would like to review your pension to get a good idea of its value. It may be that they will be able to make your money more productive and will normally give initial advice without any obligation.
